The very first step I took in setting this up was probably the most important. A cool domain name….
After hours of thinking I came up with coconut.codes, works with my past life of esports and the two C’s in Coconut and Codes makes me sound incredibly cool. I picked up the domain on Namecheap for $7 a year (score) and immediately went to Zoho Mail to also grab my new email.
Which you can find: owengibson@coconut.codes 🙂
From there I had to actually set up Zoho Mail in my Namecheap which turns out is harder than it looks! I had a lot of issues with my Namecheap DNS panel but hey, we’re here, so I guess I figured it out! Setting this site itself up with GitHub has proved challenging, I still don’t think my domain wants to properly resolve to this day despite everything being added correctly.
I wanted to use this portfolio as a way to show off my solutions in my CTF competitions this year and last, because as of now I have all of them sitting on a hard drive just collecting dust. One of my teammates had asked me how the heck I 100%’d password cracking this year so I started with that writeup which you can find under my Projects tab!
I’m still learning but I’ve come far from when I started here at TAMUSA as a freshman. Projects like this portfolio push me out of my comfort zone to learn new things and I’m happy with how far I’ve come. All of the HTML stuff you see I learned from my Web Apps class and it helped me to set up this silly little web page.
Keep an eye out for my new stuff! I’ll try to be active here and post anything cool I do.
